Brenda Wootton was a Cornish housewife turned singer and cultural icon who rose to fame in the 1970s with an international career. Now, her daughter Sue, who’s been told she only has a short time to live, is determined to preserve her mother’s legacy.

This project is led by director Florence Browne , who has established unique access to both subjects and family archive materials. Having lived and worked in Cornwall for four years, though not Cornish by birth, Florence embodies an insider-outsider perspective. Full of admiration for Brenda’s story, influenced by her enticing and humorous performance style, she also understands the need to draw in a wider, modern audience through a strong contemporary narrative.
